StoryBug is a platform that highlights the human impacts of antimicrobial resistance (AMR). Overuse and misuse of antibiotics can result in bacteria developing resistance to drugs. By empowering individuals to share their personal stories as ‘mini-films’ we aim to raise public awareness of this critical issue and help us all think differently about how we use antibiotics.

Unlike traditional documentaries, StoryBug puts the storytellers in control. Participants create their own 3-5 minute digital narratives, using their own words and mostly their own mobile phone photos and videos. These intimate, first-person accounts offer a powerful and authentic perspective on the challenges posed by drug resistance and antibiotic use.

Hidden Embers –‘it’s not just a UTI!’

“My UTI story needs to be shared. It’s a lonely place with stigma and cultural pressures… lack of understanding.”

False Peak – when AMR becomes a bigger threat than cancer

“Until then, I thought it was a cancer that would kill me. Now I wondered whether resistant infection might be a more imminent threat.”

Fight to Breathe – AMR exerts a huge mental toll in cystic fibrosis

“This bug seemed outerworldly with an intelligence that outsmarted every antibiotic we tried.”

Stiletto – Stepping back from antibiotics

“Nothing worked… The pain continued to ramp up, and the infection lingered…but this time it was different.”
